As your constituent, I urge you to co-sponsor the International Violence Against Women Act (HR5927) to prevent and respond to violence against women and girls around the world.
At least one out of three women globally will be beaten, coerced into sex, or otherwise abused in her lifetime, with rates reaching 70 percent in some countries. The I-VAWA will coordinate and improve U.S. government efforts to stop the global crisis of violence against women and girls. The I-VAWA will significantly reduce violence against women globally by integrating anti-violence work across U.S foreign assistance and across U.S. diplomatic efforts. I-VAWA is designed to give victims of violence more assistance, hold perpetrators accountable, and improve women’s economic status and educational opportunities.
